Hysterica Dance Company has been a creative, consistently prolific, and invigorating force in the LA community for the past 10 years. In addition to concert work Hysterica has performed at Disney Hall, in music videos, the L-Word, the Ovation Awards, in 365 days/365 plays, at Highways Birthday Celebration, in clubs, fashion shows and with Margaret Cho at El Cid. Hysterica has been commissioned to create new works by Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Erato Philharmonia. Hysterica Dance Co. has performed extensively in the Southland and nationally at the Joyce Soho (dancenow/NYC), the Manhattan School of Music, Wave Rising Festival and WHITE WAVE Performance Space in NY, and at Helm’s Fine Arts Center in Austin, TX. California performances include the REDCAT (Studio), LACMA, Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the Ford Amphitheatre, Highways Performance Space, James Armstrong Theater, Sushi Performance and Visual Art Gallery in San Diego, Cal State Northridge and the Choreography Under the Stars Festival in Palm Springs (where the company received awards for Best Choreography in Small Ensemble and Best Thematic Choreography). Hysterica Dance Co. was nominated for a Lester Horton Award for ‘Best Performance by a Company” for their July 2002 performance of “Sticks & Stones” at the Ford Amphitheatre and again for their performance in “Split” in April 2005 and “Rapture” in 2007.

Kitty McNamee - Artistic Director

From opera to burlesque, Kitty embraces each new project with wit, grace and unique style. Her ability to draw sophisticated, engaging performances from superbly trained dancers, as seen in her opera and concert work, is matched by her sensitive approach to "non" movers. Kitty specializes in developing a creative exchange with performers, which encourages them to blossom and achieve their full movement potential.
This season, Kitty choreographed Man of La Mancha for Reprise!, La Rondine (with Patrica Racette) at LA Opera, Symphonie Fantastique  and Wing on Wing at Disney Hall and the world premiere musical Gulls. Recent work ranges from Margaret Cho’s Off-Broadway smash “Sensuous Woman”, La Traviata (Renee Fleming and Rolando Villazon) and Don Carlo for LA opera, The L-Word and Kitty's debut at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Recently, her choreography has been seen in the Ovation awards with Neil Patrick Harris, DanceBreak, Sondheim’s 75th at the Hollywood Bowl (Vanessa Williams), Romeo et Juliette (Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazon) at LA opera, Wave Rising Festival in NY, 365 Days/365 Plays and industrials for Sony.

Ryan Heffington - Co-Artistic Director

Ryan Heffington is Co-Artistic Director of Hysterica Dance Co. and has been nominated for best male performer, best small group ensemble and costume design by the Horton Awards. His collaborations of costume design and choreography include Collage Dance Theater, Marshall Dance Company and Los Angeles Contemporary Dance Co. High and low art enthusiasts alike have experienced his electrifying work at venues not limited to The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, LA County Museum of Art, the Hammer Museum and New York runway fashion shows. Heffington’s commercial credits include rocking the stage and screen with Peaches, Fischerspooner, Beirut, Tiga, Ladytron, Suicide Girls as well as Academy Awards, “The L Word”, “Legally Blonde”, Sony, Canon, Disney, HBO and Margaret Cho in her Off-Broadway show “The Sensuous Woman”. He has traveled across the US and to Nicaragua, Tokyo, Germany and Canada teaching master classes and currently teaches at the EDGE Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles. His design alias, Sir Heffington, has clothed celebrities Britney Spears, J-Lo, Beck, Mick Jagger, and Gwen Stefani to name just a few.
